I discovered a passion for health and fitness through an early interest in sports.
Growing up on a dairy farm in Middlebury, VT there was never a shortage of hard work to be found….often my brothers and I would find the sports training easier then the farming duties (especially during haying season).
Wrestling became my passion and lead me to SUNY Cortland where I graduated in 87 with my degree in PE.
While at Cortland I discovered many reasons to stay in this area, probably the most significant was that my then girlfriend, now wife Tina. After graduating from Oswego, I got a job teaching at Mexico Middle School.
It was not long after that, that I found my way to a small private personal training studio in the basement of Salina Place and began to train clients 1 on 1. I quickly found to be my true calling.
After the owner of that gym moved to Florida another trainer and I formed a partnership and opened Personal Fitness in 1995. I opened my second location in the CNY Medical Center a couple years later, bought out my partner in ’99 and expanded the downtown club to the upstairs in 2000, then again in 2004.
Several renovations later, here we are offering a full scale membership service to the community of Syracuse!
Over the years I have come to know many clients/members at Personal Fitness very well. It’s a great feeling to know you had something to do with helping someone improve their health/well being and empower them to make better lifestyle decisions.
Tina and I decided to get married and reside in Brewerton as it would be a good half way point for us to travel to work and start our family.
It seems like yesterday my oldest of 3 girls was born, Ashley 5/10/93. She will be 19 next month and finishing her Freshmen year at Alfred University where she plays softball, studies biology and made the deans list first semester. Bradleigh is 16, a Sophomore, and Maddie is 12 and in 6th grade both at Central Square.
My family and I enjoy many activities together, like skiing, biking, swimming and we do a lot of sports traveling for their respective travel clubs – Bradleigh plays soccer and Maddie plays softball.
As downtown Syracuse continues to evolve into a thriving community, I look optimistically at the future of Personal Fitness and am excited about the possibilities my staff will have to service these new opportunities.
In good health,
